Underactive thyroid function is becoming more and more common yet still today is regularly underdiagnosed. The good news is once it is diagnosed, it can easily be treated with therapy to alleviate your symptoms and make life worth living again. At Premier U we utilize specific blood tests to help determine if you could benefit from thyroid hormone optimization.

Our Unique Approach to Thyroid Hormone Treatment

If you or a loved one have ever experienced the symptoms of a thyroid condition but have always been told the test results are “normal”, then we are the solution for you. The truth is that the medical community has yet to fully understand the causes- or even the symptoms- of thyroid disease. For decades, this lack of knowledge has resulted in patients receiving no treatment or recommendations or unfortunately even more worrisome, the wrong treatment or recommendations. Our expert clinicians offer a revolutionary approach to treating thyroid disease, a condition that is becoming more pervasive in our society while leaving the afflicted patient feeling like there are no real solutions to alleviate their pain and suffering.

Our approach is unique for several reasons.

Our approach is unique for several reasons. First, we start with the most comprehensive medical questionnaire available. Your symptoms matter to us! How you are feeling is crucial to our understanding of your issues and how they affect your life. Listening will be the foundation upon which we build our relationship and your diagnosis. One of the largest problems in the medical world of thyroidology is the poor interpretation of thyroid hormone blood analysis labs. Either not enough labs are ordered, or when they are drawn, they are poorly interpreted, leaving patients either under-diagnosed or under-treated. We solve this problem by ordering additional labs that are usually not considered, such as reflex and TPO, and then provide a sophisticated medical interpretation of the values using a comprehensive view with optimization goals. Finally, our experienced providers prescribe the most effective form and dose of thyroid hormone for each individual patient based directly on their specific lab results and lifestyle goals.

This is usually the prescription medication Armour, known as Natural Dessicated Thyroid. The key to optimal thyroid hormone choice is a medication that contains the vitally important active hormone T3 with the precursor hormones T1 and T2. Most physicians prescribe Synthroid, Levoxyl or levothyroxine which contain only T4 and thus patients suffer as a result. We are not beholden to any one type of medication but instead find the one that works best for each patient to truly relieve symptoms while also optimizing performance and safety.

We typically see three types of patients struggling with thyroid issues.

The first is the patient who had been diagnosed by their doctor with thyroid disease but has been placed on a standard T4-only medication, and they have not seen any improvement in their symptoms. The second patient has noticed symptoms for years, but their doctor has told them they are not bad enough yet or that their labs are within normal limits and thus renders no treatment at all. The final patient type is one that has noticed something feeling not quite right but doesn’t have, in their view, any obvious thyroid-type symptoms and thus has not even looked for help before for these issues. This is the patient that presents with one complaint, but then when we get down to the root cause or find other underlying issues, we discover that a malfunctioning thyroid is a major part of their disease.

LOW THYROID: HYPOTHYROIDISM

This is a medical condition associated with a slow metabolic rate due to the inactivity of the thyroid gland. It is a very common condition, particularly in women and even more common in women with perimenopause or menopause. But men suffer from this condition also.

Autoimmune Thyroid Disease

This condition is less common but more acutely serious and thus must be found and treated as soon as possible. We are routinely shocked by how many of our female patients show some level of positivity when testing for auto-immune thyroid disease and have no idea that this is what has been plaguing them. On a positive note, we are experts at diagnosing these issues and then developing a comprehensive treatment plan in order to limit symptoms while improving your quality of life.
