Microneedling

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is one of the most popular and effective skincare treatments available. It is known as “microneedling” because it utilizes tiny, fine needles to penetrate the skin to heal and rejuvenate the skin, as well as generate new collagen. The result is skin that is more smooth, firmer, and healthy.

How microneedling works repeatedly

Microneedling is a technique that uses tiny microscopic needles to penetrate the skin repeatedly. They create tiny injuries in the damaged skin to trigger the body’s wound repair process, which is how the new collagen is created. Both collagen and elastin production is started, resulting in skin that is much improved and more radiant. Because microneedling addresses problems of the skin as well as creates new collagen, it is both an anti-aging treatment and a skin repair treatment. We are proud to be a Certified Provider of SKINPEN and one of the few clinics in the metro-east to offer this Gold-Standard treatment. SkinPen Precision is the original microneedling treatment modality and the only device cleared by the FDA for use on the face and an area of the body. It has the most depth options in this space and is even safe for use on the neck with a depth of 2.5mm. Procedures take about 30 minutes, depending on the area treated and the desired results.

  • Facial scars
  • Sun damage
  • Large pores
  • Fine lines
  • Rosacea

  • Hyperpigmentation

Microneedling treatment

On the day of your microneedling appointment, your face will be cleansed of any makeup or dirt, and then you will be given a topical anesthetic to help keep any discomfort minimal. The anesthetic takes 30 minutes to an hour to take effect.

Once you are appropriately numbed, the technician will remove the numbing agent, and the treatment will begin. The SkinPen device will be repeatedly passed over the skin, making tiny punctures. Because the needles make micro-injuries, there is a small amount of blood, but any bleeding will stop by the time you leave.

Microneedling takes about 15 minutes for the face. After the microneedling portion is complete, a cooling mask will be applied to your treated skin for about half an hour. After this, topical skincare products or serums may be applied as well. Multiple treatments are recommended for the best results.

Additions to Microneedling

Many patients choose to combine microneedling with serums or other topicals during treatment. Combining elements such as vitamins, Botox®, or even platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may enhance the outcome of your microneedling treatment. If you’re considering microneedling, be sure to ask us about what may be added to your treatment to boost results.
